Green-schools:
Our school has had a long tradition of supporting environmental projects. In 2006 we became involved in the Green-Schools initiative and since then we have achieved 6 Green flags. Each Green flag has a different theme. We have achieved the following flags:
- Litter and Waste
- Energy
- Water
- Travel
- Biodiversity
- Global Citizenship – Litter and Waste
The theme of our next Green flag is Global Citizenship and Energy. This theme gives schools the chance to look at our use of energy at school and at home and examine issues surrounding energy use globally.
Louth County Council GROW Awards
Each year Louth County Council organise the GROW awards to acknowledge the environmental work taking place in schools throughout the county. We have been very successful at the awards each year.
At the last awards in June 2019 our school received the Drogheda Borough District ‘School of the Year’ 2018-2019 Award. Mrs.White who leads the environmental programme in our school won ‘Teacher of the Year’. A number of our pupils have received the coveted accolade of ‘Junior Environmentalist of the Year’ in recent years.
Eco Tribes
Louth County Council invited us to participate in Eco Tribes, creating a community garden in partnership with their local Tidy Towns group. In 2014 we created a bee and butterfly garden and and in 2017 we designed a Celtic garden with the help of Drogheda Tidy Towns members.
Challenge to Change
Each year the Presentation Sisters organise Challenge to Change. Participating schools complete a project to raise awareness and bring a greater understanding of global issues. We have completed a number of projects for Challenge to Change including one on Fair Trade, the importance of bees and global citizenship. We were invited to present our bee project to Prince Albert of Monaco when he visited Drogheda in June 2017.
